My Bio - Born and raised in Chicago's Southside, Diana is an Afro-Latina author, playwright, producer, speaker, educator, and mother-of-four. She was inspired by her multi-ethnic family to share stories out loud that could draw laughter from a crowd. Diana has performed as an actress and has written, published and/or produced short stories, children's books, poems, TV commercials, and indie films. Diana's credits include co-producing the indie full-feature film, Bloom which premiered at the Chicago Latino Film Festival in 2006, won best drama at the Palm Springs Film Festival and earned a Women-in-Film grant. In 2005, Diana co-produced her first play, I'm a Female. . . Seeking a Male, with PROP THTR in Chicago. The play earned accolades from local press, including the Chicago Sun-Times. Diana established her own production and publishing company, Back of the Yards Entertainment and in 2018, co-produced her play, Come ‘n Go with Aleatoric Theatre in Chicago. In 2020, she performed a monologue of her short story SPIT with A New World of Theater in 8:46 a Time to Listen, a collection of stories by Black playwrights. In 2021, Diana produced a virtual Latinx Playwright’s Workshop Festival that included her short play, Breaking News. That same year she performed a monologue of Breaking News at Generation Women’s storytelling night at the Caveat Theatre, New York City. In April 2023 Diana’s new play, Growing Up with Big Hair, received a workshop and reading at The Austin Latinx New Play Festival, produced by Teatro Vivo. The play was also selected as a Second Rounder in the 2023 Austin Film Festival playwriting competition. Diana is a member of Chicago Dramatists, The Dramatist Guild of America, Amigos del Rep, A New World of Theater’s Playwrights Collective and New Playwright’s Exchange.
