Bridging Your Brand to the Brand of Broadway on Social Media
The theater community has never had a greater opportunity to connect and empower itself through digital media. Broadway and musical theater are more popular in mainstream culture than they have been in nearly 100 years. How can we capitalize on this shift? How do we honor the traditions (and rules) of theater while taking advantage of the present opportunities? Content Creators Katharine Quinn @itskatharinequinn and Wildlin Pierrevil @notwildlin curate a panel with leaders in Broadway social media: content creators, digital marketing, and advertising, to unpack how we can better our brands as well as the brand of Broadway in this globally accessible time.

Spotlight on Women and Nonbinary Musical Theatre Writers!
Do you know how many of your favorite Broadway songs were written by a female identifying, nonbinary, and/or gender expansive musical theatre writer? How many can you name? Want to learn about what the workers in the industry are doing to pave the way for more?

It’s time to shine a light on the folks who are breaking ground – and breaking glass ceilings – as musical theatre writers!

This conversation, presented by Maestra and The Dramatists Guild of America, will celebrate the trailblazers who have recently made their Broadway debuts and lift up emerging musical theatre writers who are the face of the future by bringing them in the room together. We’ll discuss their experiences, lingering disparities in the industry, as well as the ongoing programs developed to achieve progress, such as Maestra’s RISE Theatre Network, The Count, DG’s Inclusion Rider, ongoing DEIA efforts, and other resources developed to address historic inequities in Broadway and the American theatre at large.

The Art of Audio Description
Our goal is to keep talking about audio description until the response is – that’s the accessibility service that allows blind and visually impaired patrons to enjoy theatre. We hope that this program demystifies what audio description is and helps spread the word among all theatre goers that audio description is available across the country for everyone that would like to use the service. We will also share feedback that we’ve heard from blind and low vision theatre goers from our combined experiences with audio description. We will answer any questions that workshop attendees have from how to become a describer, to how to start a description program or how to increase participation from AD users at your theatre.

Dreamland: Asian American Celebration and Representation
Asian Americans ask themselves, how do we fully represent ourselves and our culture despite being termed the “model minority”? Hear from industry and educational professionals, playwrights, and artists, both on and off Broadway to ask, are we fully represented now? Now that AAPI folx finally see themselves in leading roles and stories onstage, where do we go from here? We’ll ask questions about the struggles of representation and reception in American audiences and how we can find new pathways to spread Asian joy with those same audiences moving forward.

I Know Things Now: Remembering Stephen Sondheim
Since the Broadway world lost Stephen Sondheim a year and a half ago, it seems interest in the Master has only grown. Four experts will reflect on his body of work, digging below the surface to uncover lyrical and musical gems. Peter Filichia will look back at decades of seeing Sondheim first-run shows; Howard Ho will explore whether Sondheim was more of an innovator or a traditionalist; Gail Leondar-Wright will point to things you might have missed about Sunday in the Park with George, and David Benkof will do the same for Into the Woods. Appropriate for both newbies and mega-fans. Lots of time for Q & A.

The Power Of Social Media For Performers
Actors know the stats. There are a whole lot of us, and not a whole lot of jobs. So much so that we can go weeks, months, even years without performing professionally. So why wait for the next opportunity? Why wait for the phone to ring when we have something so valuable (and FREE!) right at our fingertips?

I'm talking about the power of social media. Join my friends and fellow performers in the field to talk about how we've made an impact online, and how it's affecting our careers in the theatre industry. The good, the bad, and the ugly!

Presenting Classic Musicals of the Past
James Morgan from Musicals in Mufti, Mel Miller from Musicals Tonight! and Robert Schneider from J2 Spotlight have found and restored many classic musicals that may have been forgotten if it weren't for them reminding us of past musicals from Cole Porter to Sheldon Harnick. Is there some musical from the past that you have always wanted to see for the first time or again? I'd love to see Kander and Ebb's Steel Piers myself.

Broadway Eulogies: A Time to Reflect, Grieve and Appreciate Shows Gone Too Soon
Are you still salty that we never got an American Psycho OBCR? Do you lament missing out on Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson after becoming obsessed with the songs? Do the musicals that no one else talks about live rent-free in your head? The closing of a show is never easy - whether its premature or just too soon for our liking. Let's share in that misery together.

We cordially invite you to a VERY dramatic Broadwaycon funeral, where we invite attendees to eulogize their favorite show that was gone too soon to a captive but supportive audience. We'll bring the tissues, you bring the memories. Whether you prepare a speech or speak from the heart, know that you will be doing so amongst a group of supportive mourners who know just where you're coming from. Find others who remember that one show you can't seem to forget. Plus - funeral themed photo ops!

Livestream and Captures and ProShots, oh my!
Why aren’t there more livestreams and digital captures of Broadway shows?
Hamilton was not the first time cameras were brought into a theater to film a Broadway show. Broadway shows have been seen on television and in cinema for many years. PBS and the BBC have included captures in their arts and culture programming for nearly fifty years. HBO, Netflix, and Amazon all have grabbed coveted shows with recognizable tv and movie stars, and BroadwayHD has over 300 digital captures available for on-demand streaming - so why aren’t all the Broadway shows available online?
Since the release of Hamilton on Disney+, audiences are becoming very familiar with this hybrid art form of theater on screens and frequently request the shows they want to see on social media. The pandemic has brought a renewed appreciation for live stage shows and an understanding of the value of digital capture. Evidence is mounting of the additive value of livestreams and proshots in expanding the Broadway fanbase.
Let’s listen as a panel of experts in this art form discusses the obstacles, advantages, and future of Broadway online and on screen.

Original Theatre? Yes Please!
"In a sea of adaptations, revivals, jukebox and bio musicals, nothing is more intriguing than a show with no source material. New writers are creating exciting original theatre, but they aren't always getting the support they need in the mainstream. In this panel, we will learn from the writers themselves: why is originality so crucial, how can we find these new shows, and why do they need the support of the fans and industry alike? The only way we bring these stories to the forefront is by giving them a platform. Presented by Lines in the Sky (linessky.com)"

Juliet’s new story bursts to life through a playlist of pop anthems as iconic as her name. & Juliet is created by the Emmy-winning writer from “Schitt’s Creek” and features an iconic playlist of Pop hits, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “I Want It That Way,” “Confident,” and more.

The Future of Broadway Marketing: Building Deep Communities from the Ground Up
The state of Broadway marketing has changed. We can longer expect audiences to show up to productions they don’t have an intimate relationship with. Theatrical worlds possess so much potential and by creating multiple pathways for audiences to discover them via TikTok, podcasts, or extended reality, we can treat audiences like collaborators, not consumers.
In this conversation Brandon Powers, Founder and Creative Director of experiential theatrical brand studio Constellation, will break down his community building approach and share best practices to unlock the potential of a theatrical brand. He will be joined by collaborators and innovative producers, Nico Juber and Blair Russel, to share their approaches and experience building new musicals. Representation on the Road
The musical ON YOUR FEET! THE STORY OF EMILIO AND GLORIA ESTEFAN was groundbreaking in its own right when it premiered in 2016, then-hailed as an example of bringing more diversity and inclusion to Broadway. Now, on the road in 2023, the second national tour has taken this foundation even further — with cast, crew and musicians representing more than 10 countries including Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and beyond. Additionally, half of the lead producing team are Puerto Rican-Americans, and the tour has created jobs for 12 performers currently in the country on artist visas. How can we use this success as a model to continue bringing more representation to the road, which has been slower to catch up to progress being made on Broadway?

Luis Salgado (director, choreographer and producer) and his team approached this project with three key ideas in mind — finding talent who represent the show’s key theme of “what an American looks like;” the importance of creating mentorship relationships between creatives and talent; and utilizing relationships with regional theatres as an incubator to support these relationships.

In this discussion, Luis will lead a discussion with Claudia Mulet (Associate Director, OYF second national tour), Gaby Albo (principal actor playing Gloria Estefan), and Holly Buczek, CSA. They will share their experiences with ON YOUR FEET! and other productions, and speak more broadly to how these ideas can unfold into future projects that strengthen representation in cast, crew and producers on the road.
